Admission Counselling by medical students from medical colleges all across India, is an initiative on the part of PMT Gurumantra, so that you won’t be alone while making the toughest choice in your life. A student needs to do a lot of research on the college before choosing it and the major problem that arises here is the lack of correct information. But we, at PMT Gurumantra, are determined to solve all the problems and doubts that may come across your mind.
It is often seen that students are misguided by the lists of top medical colleges published in various magazines and websites. They claim that their survey is based on education facilities and research opportunities provided by the institution but it is usually seen that they include some of the private colleges in the list too which don’t seem to fit in.
So don’t follow them blindly; instead select your own preferences and do your own research by keeping the following factors in mind:
1. College Infrastructure – Old /New, Good / Bad
2. Internal PG (as in VMMC & IMS-BHU) – It is the biggest deciding factor while choosing a medical college. Always give it a priority.
3. Hospital Infrastructure – The more the diagnostic facilities available, the more do you get to learn about them.
4. Average number of patients visiting the OPD per day – more are the patients, more are the variety of cases you will come to see in your clinical postings.
5. City (Delhi = Mumbai > State Capital > Cities >Town
Prefer Delhi; Delhi Advantages – Cinema halls, discs, cultural fests of plenty of college, PG coaching, good exposure, near home, well connected, good food etc.
6. State (North-East < South / North < UP/Bihar< MP < Maharashtra < Gujarat)
7. Recognition of State P.G. seats (in most of the colleges in MP, P.G. seats are not recognized)
8. Bond for rural posting (in Maharashtra)
9. Faculty
10. Past academic record
11. Hostel facilities (you are going to spend the most unforgettable 51/2 years of your life here!!!)
12. Ragging scenario – yes it is still prevalent in many colleges in UP and Bihar; but it’s fun in rest of the colleges.
13. Fees (lowest in AIIMS, MAMC, LHMC & UCMS)
14.Recreation Facilities – sports, culture, literature – AIIMS and AFMC are the colleges where you would get ample opportunity to groom your interests and passion.
15. Attendance – yes! Not now, but once into college you would realize that you should have chosen a college where regular attendance is not a compulsion – here too AIIMS leads the list.
16.Salary – Confirm the current salary paid to the interns and PGs to the students in the college you are taking. Compare it with other colleges. It is lower in MP, Maharashtra and other states…In Delhi the salary paid to the interns is around 12-14000 and to the PGs its 50000 approx..
17. Language – Students from North may have language barrier in southern states and Maharashtra..Similarly South Indians will not feel comfortable in Punjab , Orissa , North East..So it is better to choose your own state or a state where language is not an issue e.g. Delhi, MP, Rajasthan, Western UP
There are many other advantages and disadvantages in every particular college which you may come to know after talking to the college representative…For further information, go to admission counseling in the menu or just send me your query on ask your doubts.
Hello Sir,
My brother has got good rank in NEET this year (conducted in dec 2013). My parents want him to take KGMC lucknow as they are planning to settle there (as my dad is getting retired soon) but my brother is scared as he has heard a lot about ragging with PG students in KGMC. Would you be able to throw some light on it whether PG students are ragged in KGMC or not. And how are other colleges of UP in terms of ragging with PG students (like Kanpur etc).
Ragging is the only reason that brother doesnt want to take KGMC (though he admires the college a lot for its academics) and so is inclined towards colleges of Rajasthan and Mumbai.
Thanks.
Are you talking about AIPG? Better post the query in any facebook group concerned with AIPG2014 counselling…Anyway, besides KGMC…SMS Jaipur is also a good option but that depends on the rank and branch you need…
which college i should go for ? Mahatma gandhi institute of medical science, wardha or Lokmanya tilak medical college mumbai
Wardha
I want to know the full fees (including mess and hostel charges) per annum at AIIMS, MAMC, VMMC and UCMS. Also please let me know the salaries paid to interns at these institutes.
very low…abt 5000 per anum…mess extra
sir vmmc is private or government?
Its under central goverment
hi sir!
which college i should go for? vmmc or ucms?
VMMC has internal PG advantage so i suggest you to take VMMC..No doubt, UCMS is better college (academically) than VMMC and the fees too here is less comparatively but in VMMC you getting PG seat would be much easier because of internal PG.also refer my article POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED WHILE CHOOSING A MEDICAL COLLEGE
VMMC – Internal PG ; Best & Largest Tertiary Care Hospital under Health Ministry with maximum no. of OPD visits. (AIIMS is autonomous) ; Good location – South delhi..easily accessible..markets and places to visit and hang-outnearby ; But new college..past academic record is not good..
UCMS – Location not good – Dilshad garden ; Not suitable for girls…girls are rare species there. ; Very good academic record
sir my friends are saying pg entrance is going to b commen in coming years! nd ip internal pg hata dega is that true? or sir is there any disadvantage of going into ip university?
yes there could be a problem if NEET is introduced and internal PG could be removed but in that case they will have to include us under Delhi quota; so there is just a little risk..Evan we are not sure about what will they do to us. So, visit the college, and see for your self. and IP university is not a good university but you don’t have to do anything with it. Its duty is to conduct the exams.there is no such disadvantage. and both the colleges are equal, there is no much difference.
hi sir !
which college i should go for? vmmc or ucms?
HI Sir,
i have secured 1730 rank in aipmt 2011 and a resident of delhi. i have a query regarding whether i shouid opt fr south collges or collges in mp. is language a major problem while opting for south govt collges.??
Colleges of south are good in academics and have good infrastructure as compared to colleges in MP. plus fees in MP colleges is around Rs. 40-50000 p.a. and the infrastructure is poor. On the other hand, there will be a language problem in southern colleges and distance will also be a barrier. So, if you can adjust yourself in south and the distance doesn’t mattter, then you can go for south. You can learn the language in your first year, it would help you in your interaction with the patients in the clinical postings from second year. Otherwise, take bhopal, Indore or Gwalior. Don’t take jabalpur, it’s not good.
hi,
my rank in AIPMT 2011 is 2175. i am a resident of delhi. what are the best GMCs that could be available for my rank. im a girl. so i would prefer going south, than to UP, Bihar or N.E.
also, i mite get a seat in KMC, mangalore (manipal).
do you suggest i go for a seat through AIPMT, or should i take manipal?
thanks.
Although KMC is a good college, the fees is very high here. So, It is better to take any govt. college that joining it. and wait for the counseling to begin…see what all colleges are left for you, a day or two before your counseling, then send me your query..then I would tell you which college would be better. You can get Gwalior, meerut, Bellary or Pune..but the trend changes every time..so better wait for the counseling to begin.
A last question sir 🙂
Wont there be a problem for a ncr resident like me to settle in mumbai??
nd is seth g.s. really better than grant???
As far as I know Seth GS is better than Grant but still I would confirm the info after asking my friends there. and as I have told you before, Chandigarh and BHU are better options. Chandigarh is a good city, is near delhi and no bond restriction. and BHU has intrnal PG advantage.
and there wont be any major problem settling in Mumbai because both delhi and mumbai are big populated cities..except the marathi and non-marathi discrimination..but that’s not a major issue. the only disadvantage here is bond restriction.
grant medical college (mumbai) versus kgmc lucknow
which is a better option?????
grant medical college (mumbai) has bond restriction. You will have to pay a sum of around 10 lacs or something after internship otherwise you will have to serve for an year in villages ( rural posting) and you will additionally have to pay Rs. 1 lac in case you want to leave India to serve in USA. It is the only disadvantage. otherwise it is one of the best medical colleges on the country and the hospital too is very good. plus mumbai city advantage. Past academic record, hostel facilities, seniors are all good..ragging is not an issue. On the other hand KGMC is in lucknow…..UP disadvantage..ragging is severe..politics..You may have adjustment problems there if you are not the resident of UP. So choose on the basis of your home state.
In my view you should take Grant. It is much better college than KGMC plus mumbai city advantage.
You should have mentioned your rank in your query..also see what all other colleges you can get according to your rank.
Thanx a lot
Aipmt rank 223
do u hav any suggestions sirjee???
In second counseling try for IMS-BHU or Chandigarh. Both are very good colleges and better than KGMC . Additionally, BHU has internal PG advantage.
