The proposed National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS courses from next year will have objective type questions and a percentile score to determine the merit of all applicants.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Medical Council of India’s Board of Governors held this week, MCI sources said.
This is the first time that a merit list will be prepared on the basis of percentile scores of candidates in medical entrance test, unlike in the past when percentage scores were taken into account to prepare the merit list.
The Medical Council of India (MCI), which will hold the all-India medical entrance test next year in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has also decided to keep a cut-off of percentile scores of all applicants to determine the eligible candidates for admission to medical colleges in the country.
The Council is of the opinion that having a cut-off percentile of eligible applicants in the exam for admission to undergraduate medical courses in India would be necessary in view of the huge number of applicants taking the entrance examination.
Sources said the MCI was keen to fix the cut-off of 50 per cent for general and 40 per cent for reserved candidates, as without such a cut-off the percentile score of candidates given admission to MBBS would come down drastically going by the previous year’s scores.
“We may further keep a clause for relaxing this cut-off percentile in such states where all the MBBS seats are not filled. Our purpose is to ensure that no seat goes vacant.Also, we have clarified the misconception some states had about them losing their seats. Their seats will remain with them and different states will do their own counselling,” Chairman of MCI¿s Board of Governors K K Talwar said.

sir….what are these people planning to do…its october nw and the entrance examinations aren’t that far away….still the cbe people or whsoever is incharge of all this is not giving anybody clear picture….this i really rendering all the students confued…..No fixed pattern has been announced yet…….its fine as everybody saya you dont worry about the pattern you just prepare but still at times all of ours attention goes there as well….
No need to worryyyyyy…keep studuying as you used to..Lay more emphasis on NCERTs. Learn everything given in NCERT. Follow both my books in Biology. Solve past years papers..BUT PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME THINKING K AAGE KYA HOGA..It would ruin your studies..whatever MCI will do, leave it to them, you stick to your studies. There are minute changes which are significant only for those who has read everything and for those who have not completed their syllabus, they must not waste any time more thinking about the issue. Just study and there won’t be drastic changes or there might be no changes at all or even if they plan to change the syllabus and the pattern of exam then you are not alone, who wil suffer.ok, and it is nothing like time nahi hoga baad mein, if you waste today’s time in thinking about the syllabus, checking out on internet every single day about the NEET exam, you won’t be able to concentrate on your studies. So, it is a request to everyone ,please don’t waste this time..don’t wait for the syllabus or exam pattern to be disclosed.Continue your studies, the way you used to.
and in any case, the syllabus is changed, read that part from my book, I assure you none of the question will come outside what I have given in my book.
