So, does it mean 134 out of 720 is all you need to get MBBS seat in a government medical college? Not at all! This cut off is misleading. It just means that you need to score at least 134 to even think about getting MBBS/BDS seat via management quota in a private college after paying hefty capitation fees. To get a seat in a government medical college, you need to get around 550-600 out of 720 (for general category student). Hence you should target to score above 600 to get a seat via All India 15% quota. Cut off marks for state quota varies per state but still you need to fetch more than 550 marks. The real competition lies between 600-650. This is where you will be securing a seat in a medical college but your marks will decide your college. Above 650, you get all good colleges. If you are aspiring for MAMC,UCMS, KEM, VMMC, LHMC or AIIMS (peripheral) etc – you will be needing at least 650 marks. And for your dream destination AIIMS, New Delhi – you will need to score 675 marks. This is just speculated score after taking into consideration cut off trends of last three years. But anything below 500 won’t get you Govt MBBS seat in All India counselling. Anything above 600 is a safe score. Anything above 650 will get you MBBS in one of the best colleges.

Closing rank for top medical colleges
For 2018 All India counselling, the closing rank was around 10,000 and the cut off score was 537 for general candidate. The top three students scored around 690 marks out of 720. From now on AIIMS will be a part of NEET and inclusion of AIIMS seats will effect overall counselling trends.
