MBBS – THE COURSE OF STUDY
The duration of course is 4-1/2 years plus one year Internship training.
The duration of course of study i.e. 4-1/2 years are divided into nine semesters. The distribution of semesters are as under :
i) The period of 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 semesters will be w.e.f. 1st July to 31st December of the year.
ii)The period of 2,4,6 and 8 semesters will be w.e.f. 1st January to 30th June of the year.
Note : 1st and 3rd semesters may start on 1st August of the year.
attendance
As per regulations of Medical Council of India, minimum 75% attendance in a subject is compulsory for appearing in the University examination.
NOTE : The admission to the course shall close on 30th September of the year. The supplementary batch students of first professional will appear in the 2nd professional examinations conducted by the University provided he/she has completed required training, i.e.18 months of study, if otherwise, eligible. Those students who pass 1st Prof. in Supplementary Examination, will appear only in Supplementary Examination of 2nd Professional Examination first time so that about 18 months training in paraclinical training is completed.
internal assessment
i) It shall be based on day to day assessment (see Note above), evaluation of student assignments, preparation for seminars, clinical case presentations, etc.
ii) Regular periodical examinations shall be conducted throughout the course. The question of number of examinations is left to the institution.
iii) Day to day records should be given importance during Internal Assessment.
iv) Weightage for the Internal Assessment shall be 20% of the total marks in each subject.
v) Student must secure at least 35% marks separately in theory & practical out of the total marks fixed for Internal Assessment in particular subject in order to be eligible to appear in University Professional Examination of the subject.
NOTE : Internal Assessment shall relate to different ways in which students participation in learning process during semesters is evaluated. Some examples are as follows:
I. Preparation of subject for students seminar.
II. Preparation of a clinical case for discussion.
III. Clinical case study problem solving exercise.
IV. Participation in Project for health care in the Community/P.S.M. (Planning stage to evaluation.
V. Proficiency in carrying out a practical or a skill in small research project.
VI. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) Test after completion of a system/teaching.
Each item tested shall be objectively assessed.
Eligibility to appear in university examinations
As per MCI regulations, every student must fulfil following criteria to be eligible for appearing in the Professional Examination.
– Minimum 75% attendance in theory and practical class in every subject.
– Minimum 35% marks saparetely in theory and practical Internal Assessment in every subject.
a) There shall be four Examinations :
i) Ist Professional MBBS Examination shall be held around 1st to 2nd week of July.
ii) 2nd Professional MBBS Examination shall be held in Nov. – Dec.
iii) 3rd professional (Part-I) – in Nov. – Dec.
iv) 3rd professional (Part-II) – in Nov. – Dec.
b) No candidate shall be permitted to appear in the Second MBBS Examination unless he/she has passed the first examination about 18th months before.
c) A student who fails in the 2nd Professional Examination, shall not be allowed to appear in 3rd Professional Part-I Examination unless he/she passed all subjects of
2nd professional Examination.
d) Passing in 3rd professional (Part-I) Examination is not compulsory before entering for 8th and 9th Semester training. However, passing of 3rd Professional (Part-I) is compulsory for being eligible for 3rd Professional (Part-II) Examination.
Scheme of Under-graduate Examinations and Distribution of Marks :
In order to pass a candidate must obtain 50% in aggregate with a minimum of 50% in theory including orals and minimum of 50% in practicals.
